Keeping it Real
Good Monday morning everybody! I was on my way to work this morning and was thinking about how lucky we as hairdressers are. We get to make people feel beautiful, build amazing rapport with our guests and at the end of the day we feel pretty amazing about what we accomplish. I do know that at Salon Nevaselh we have a pretty phenomenal crew here that works together and keeps it professional which again is so important. I am the Director of a cosmetology school and a National Educator for John Paul Mitchell Systems and have worked behind the chair and I have heard numerous horror stories from students, guests, professionals, pretty much everyone about inappropriate conversation that they hear in salons, people being rude, and most of all lately how "FAKE" people can be. I took it upon myself to look up the definition to the word fake and this is what I found;
Fake (adj); counterfeit, sham
Fake (adj); not real, Deliberately fabricated in order to deceive.
Now this is so interesting because when someone acts fake, or is labeled as fake, they are being accused of being a sham, and deliberately fabricated in order to deceive. That sounds horrible when put like that, but makes it all the more interesting. Who has time to fabricate, I barely have time to pee in a day let alone try to ponder up falsities. With the social media world being so popular it makes it so easy to be fake. If I looked at my friends on Facebook/instagram/snapchat and solely based judgement of if they were fake just by their posts, I'd have to say I'm surrounded by numerous fake people everyday of my life. How many times do you see selfies of people and their BESTIES!!! How many bestie do you have people? Urban dictionary defines a best friend as: "Best Friends are very special people in your life. They are the first people you think about when you make plans. They are the first people you go to when you need someone to talk to. You will phone them up just to talk about nothing, or the most important things in your life. When you’re sad they will try their hardest to cheer you up. They give the best hugs in the world! They are the shoulder to cry on, because you know that they truly care about you. In most cases they would take a bullet for you, coz it would be too painful to watch you get hurt."
I don't know about you guys but this is far and few between. I have maybe two of these, some people may be blessed with 3, but let's be honest you can't throw that label out to anyone. So when you see someone posting them selves with Tom, Dick, Harry, Jane, and Suzy, and the title is Bestie, you may define them as fake. Be careful what you post people the social media network is used to define people these days, employers look at potential hires accounts, before I go to any business I check out their social media platforms and I hope before anyone choses a stylist checks theirs out too! I could go into this for days, but I won't, as their is just not enough time.
Real is defined as:
Real (adj):not artificial, fraudulent, or illusory : genuine real; also : being precisely what the name implies a real professional
Isn't that fantastic, it says being precisely what the name implies, a real professional. It's funny how real means just being who you are and coincidentally it also refers to a real professional! What does this all mean, it means it takes far less energy to be real then it does to be fake, it's much easier to be yourself than to fabricate a false you. We were made the way we were made for a reason, love yourself. Feel the same way about you that we want our guests to feel when they step out of our chair! Life is not a competition, unfortunately social media can make you feel like it is. I challenge everybody to step away from their social media platforms and even their phones for ONE weekend this summer, and have your whole family do it with you. I guarantee you that you will feel the change, not just the ability to relax, but the ability to feel spiritually better by just getting back to you! Now I'm going to go back to me and Salon Nevaeh and take some fabulous pics of our guests that we made look amazing today! Have a great day and Keep it real!
